Watermelon Socks

Started: 4 Aug 2025.  Premier Fruits Yarn in the colorway Watermelon.  235 yds;  1.75 oz/59g; 93% Acrylic, 7% PBT; Dye Lot: 3334; Machine wash, Tumble Dry.

Pattern Gauge: 7 sts in 1”.

My Gauge: 8 sts in 1” on size #1 needles. 

CO 32 stitches using Judy’s Magic CO. (16 sts on each needle)

K1 rnd through the back loop

K 1 rnd

Next rnd: k1fb, k to last 2 stitch on the first needle, k1fb, k1. 32+4=36 sts

Next rnd: k all stitches.

Repeat the above 2 rnds until there are 64 total sts (32 on each needle).

CO for the second sock and repeat the above directions.

Foot counted in (rounds):

Purple: (5) (10) (15) (20) (25) (30) (35) (40) (45) (50) (55) (60) (65) (70)

Turquoise: (5) (10) (15) (20) (25) (30) (35) (40) (45) (50) (55) (60) (65) (70)

Foot measures 7.5 inches after 70 rounds. 

The Gusset:

Round 1:  Knit across needle 1.  Needle 2 ( sole stitches): k1, m1, knit across to the last stitch, m1, k1.

Round 2: Knit all stitches  

Repeat rounds 1 and 2 until there are 54 sts on needle 2.

Purple: (34, k, 36, k, 38) (k, 40, k, 42, k) (44, k, 46, k, 48) (k, 50, k, 52, k) * (55)

Turquoise: (34, K, 36, K, 38) (k, 40, k, 42, k) (44, k, 46,  k, 48) (k, 50, k, 52, k) * (54)

*On the last round, increase 1 stitch in the center of the sole (needle 2) for a total of 55 sts.

Work across needle 1.

Heel is knit on needle 2.

Purple: (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8) = 63 sts

Turquoise: (1, 2,  3, 4, 5, 6, 7,  8,) = 63 sts

Row 1 (RS): k37, kfb, k1, wrap and turn. 

Row 2 (WS): p22, pfb, p1, wrap and turn. 

Row 3 (RS): k20, kfb, k1, wrap and turn. 

Row 4 (WS): p18, pfb, p1, wrap and turn. 

Row 5 (RS): k16, kfb, k1, wrap and turn. 

Row 6 (WS): p14, pfb, p1, wrap and turn.

Row 7 (RS): k12, kfb, k1, wrap and turn. 

Row 8 (WS): p10, pfb, p1, wrap and turn. 

Needle 2 = 63 sts. 

(RS): k to end of needle 2…in this process knit each wrapped stitch together w/the stitch it wraps. 

Knit across needle 1.

Flap:

Purple: (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9,  10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31, 32… not sure this is correct  Be careful on the turquoise sock  

Turquoise: (1, 2,  3, 2, 3, 2, 3, 2, 3, 2,  3, 2, 3,  2, 3, 2, 3, 2, 3, 2, 3, 2, 3, 2, 3, 2, 3, 2, 3, 2,) = 32 sts  

Work back and forth on the sts on needle 2.

Row 1 (RS): K47 sts (knitting each wrap together with the st it wraps, ssk, turn.

Row 2 (WS): sl1, p31, p2tog, turn.

Row3: (RS): [sl1, k1] 16 times, ssk, turn.

Rep rows 2 & 3 until all side sts have been worked; end having worked row2.  Turn your work and knit across, decreasing 1 st in the center of the row.  Needle 2 now holds 32 sts.

Begin working in the round:
